University Of Arizona's CyVerse Receives Additional Funding

A national cyberinfrastructure project led by the University of Arizona has received additional funding.
It’s called CyVerse—a data science project helping researchers all over the world to collaborate in a virtual space and share large data sets, kind of like a massive Google doc or spreadsheet.
Parker Antin, associate dean for research at the UA College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and principal investigator for the project said the scope of CyVerse has expanded exponentially since its inception in 2008.
“It was initially focused around plant genomics to improve crop yields for example. And then the project was expanded to cover all of the life sciences. In 2013, we went from just plant sciences to biomedical applications to climate to environment to space,” Antin said.
The additional $15 million in funding comes from a National Science Foundation grant.
