Phoenix police have arrested a man who they say sold nearly $2.5 million worth of stolen property.

Alejandro Arenas, 33, was booked into Maricopa County Jail on Thursday.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said other people stole rechargeable batteries and tools that run on rechargeable batteries. Those items were then taken to Arenas to resell.

“The tax revenue on that property, had it been sold legitimately through the stores, would’ve been over $200,000," Thompson said. "So Arenas was charged with trafficking stolen property, theft, illegal control of an enterprise, money laundering and fraud schemes.”

Police believe Arenas was operating the scheme for a number of years.
