Glendale is working on a plan to improve the way people get around without using cars or buses.

“Active transportation can be seen as traveling and connecting without the use of a car,” explained Marilu Garcia, city transportation planner. “It’s also referring to human-powered transportation such as walking, running, cycling, skateboarding, use of a wheelchair and other activities.”

Besides health and environmental benefits, Van Ornelas with the city’s public affairs department said non-motorized transportation can pay off in other ways.

“Having more options, it incentivizes developers, more businesses, more folks to move in. Therefore, increasing, you know, our economic outlook,” he said.

The city will host open houses at the main library to gather public input. Two sessions will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 5959 West Brown St.

People who live and work in Glendale can also take an online survey and share comments at www.glendaleatp.com.

Garcia said public input will be used to guide decisions and investments about where and how to improve pedestrian and bicycle access.
