Paul Penzone is sworn in as sheriff of Maricopa County in 2017.

Paul Penzone became Maricopa County sheriff in January of 2017 after defeating Joe Arpaio, who held the post for 24 years.

Since taking over, Penzone has closed Tent City and has worked to improve relations between his agency and the greater community. Some have criticized Penzone for continuing to work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement — or ICE — but he has generally stayed out of the headlines that his predecessor continues to make, even as a former sheriff.

Paul Penzone joined The Show to talk about his work, and we started our conversation by asking him what he’s done to change the culture of his office.
