The Arizona Department of Health Services recently confirmed 21 cases of salmonella illness linked to raw beef products recalled earlier this month. This brings the number of infected people up to 120 in 22 states.

Eugene Livar is the interim bureau chief of epidemiology and disease control at the ADHS. He urges people to check their beef products for the USDA mark of inspection EST .267, as brand names often vary.

“What can happen is in the manufacturing and processing that happens with these beef products, it can come from several different sources and there are several different points along during that processes where contamination can occur," Livar said.

Livar also said if people are unsure if their beef is contaminated, they should check the extensive list of recalled beef products available on the USDA website.
