Do Vacant U.S. Ambassador Positions Impact Foreign Policy?

There are more than 30 U.S. ambassador positions still vacant around the globe, in countries including Turkey, Egypt, South Korea and Ireland.

There are a number of other countries for which an ambassador has been nominated by the president, but that nominee has not been confirmed by the Senate.

And, another nomination could come soon, as President Donald Trump is expected to name the successor to Nikki Haley, who recently stepped down as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Aaron David Miller, vice president at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholar — who has also advised secretaries of state of both parties — joined The Show to talk about the impact vacancies at American embassies could have.
