More and more teenagers are vaping, and now Arizona health officials are preparing to launch a campaign they hope will scare teens from starting.

There has been a steady decline in teen cigarette smoking, but electronic cigarette use is on the rise among people 18 and younger, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services (DHS).

Now DHS wants to change that with a campaign it calls "Facts Over Flavor," that’s because the companies that make these products have infused them with flavors that are intended to entice new users.

“When one of your most prolific sales of vape products goes to flavors called 'Fruity Pebbles,' that's hardly marketing to people my age," Wayne Tormala with DHS.

Tormala said that when his agency confiscates vaping products and send them to the lab, 97 percent of them contain high concentrations of nicotine.
