More than 91,000 pounds of Jennie-O Turkey products were recalled Wednesday due to possible contamination by salmonella.

The Arizona Department of Health Services recently identified an unopened package of frozen ground turkey that was contaminated with salmonella. The package was linked to the multi-state salmonella outbreak in turkey that began this summer. 

“The use-by dates on this ground turkey was all back in the very beginning of October and so none of this turkey should be left on store shelves," said Jessica Rigler, interim assistant director at the state health department. "However, it’s possible that people may have frozen ground turkey in their freezers that are linked to this outbreak.”

Rigler says consumers should check their freezers and dispose of or return any recalled products. Rigler emphasized the outbreak has only been linked to ground turkey, live turkeys and raw turkey pet food. Roasted or frozen whole turkeys should be safe for Thanksgiving.
