ASU received nearly $3 million to combat urban heat.

Arizona State University has received about $3 million dollar from the Maricopa County Industrial Development Authority to combat urban heat throughout the Valley.

“The main activity is to be sort of an incubator for pilot research. People have new technologies, new materials, new changes in ways people behave or deal with public transit,” said Charles Redman, professor and founding director of ASU’s school of sustainability.

According to a county press release, over the past 90 years average daytime high temperatures in Phoenix have risen four degrees and average nighttime low temperatures have increased 17 degrees.
