Veterans often advocate on Capitol Hill for VA reform or for the continuation of the GI Bill. Last week, a group of veterans went to Congress to advocate for something else: the wilderness.

On Veteran’s Day, more than 200 veterans signed a letter sent to Congress urging lawmakers to pass nine bills aimed at conservation of wilderness areas around the country.

For many veterans, our nation’s public lands and waters are about solitude, recovery and independence.

Army veteran Brian Stultz was in Washington, D.C. last week to advocate for these wilderness protection bills. He’s the stewardship director for Arizona Wilderness Coalition, which works to permanently protect wilderness lands here in our state. The Show spoke with him about this broader effort by veterans.
