The Alfred F. Garcia Elementary School is in the Murphy Elementary School District.

The Arizona Auditor General has found the Murphy Elementary School District in south Phoenix is still out of compliance with its financial records. This letter comes months after the district’s schools were projected to be hundreds of thousands of dollars over budget.

The school district is in state receivership after financial mismanagement last year. The auditor found issues with financial records, and gave the district 90 days to fix the problems.

In a one-page letter to the state superintendent, the auditor general said while the district did create a corrective action plan, that plan needed work. The letter said based on the newest action plan and talking with district management, Murphy is still not substantially complying with the financial records system.

What that means is now the Arizona Board of Education can withhold up to 10 percent of the state funding Murphy gets until its finances are in compliance. The next state board meeting is the end of January.
