HD Scores is a new iPhone app that was released recently and it gives a more complete picture of restaurant and other businesses health scores in major metropolitan areas.

It takes the data from every public health inspection grade and violation over the past two years for more than 20,000 businesses that serve food in Phoenix to develop an overall score.

“Our scoring system works by basically taking the violations that have been noted by public health inspectors, and then we average it out over time. So we don’t just take one inspection, we take a number of years of inspections,” says Glynne Townsend, CEO and a co-owner of the company. “It’s really to know to trust where you eat. It is our slogan but it really is the essence of it. Having confidence in where you’re going out to eat is a great piece of benefit.”

Townsend says to avoid conflict of interest, the app charges a 99-cent monthly subscription instead of selling ads. They are working on an Android version of the app.
