Two TSA officers finished a shift at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport and immediately came down to help bag food to give out to colleagues during the government shutdown in January 2019.

After five weeks of not working, or working without pay, federal workers are going back to their usual Monday morning routine. The government is back open, though it’s unclear when those workers will be paid. The White House has only said it will be “in the coming days.”

The Show spoke with TSA officer Juan Casarez. He works at Phoenix Sky Harbor International airport and is the president of AFGE TSA Local 1250, the union serving Arizona and Nevada officers.

Casarez said that he and his fellow officers are not celebrating right now because the deal to reopen the government is only temporary — lasting until Feb. 15.
