On Roosevelt Row in Phoenix, a longtime staple is closing on Sunday. Revolver Records, the downtown record shop, has been the center point for the first Friday art walk for 10 years, but owner TJ Jordan announced in January that Revolver was coming to an end.

Jordan said a few things made him come to the decision to close. The lease was ending, his life has changed, and the culture around him isn’t what it used to be.

“It got a little frustrating to me that we had worked really hard to create a place where people could go and experience music the way that I think it should be experienced, and sometimes it felt like it got reduced to an Instagram post,” he said

Some regulars have been going to the record shop to say goodbye. Megan Elliott is one of those regulars. She had a friend in town from Texas and she says she had to show her one of her favorite stops.

“We wanted to go record shopping and I told her that we needed to come here, definitely, because they were closing,” she said.

Across the street, you can sit on the patio of Carly’s Bistro and watch people come and go from the record store. Travis Fischer, a bartender and server, has been hanging out downtown for about 10 years.

He said a lot of the local businesses seem to be moving out, but he said it’s hard to tell if the change is for better or worse just yet.

“Well, this area’s definitely been big on the art community. I think the increase in rent and stuff, it’s just kind of pushed those people into different areas and now there’s, like, condos here that weren’t here a few years ago,” he said.

Revolver Records will be open until Sunday, so if you need to buy a few albums or even check it out, you better hurry.
