Power Outages in the Valley

July 06, 2011

Last week a transformer fire left 150,000 Arizona residents without power on one of the hottest days of the year. Here and Now host Steve Goldstein interviews two experts about why it happened and how to prevent outages in the future.

Goldstein talks to former Arizona Corporation Commission chair Kris Mayes about power outages in Arizona, and whether power should be regulated to keep future outages from occurring. Goldstein also talks to SRP spokesman Jeff Lane about meeting the energy demand this summer, and why Phoenix is a unique area for electric utilities.
