A 1991 Arizona law that prohibits talking about the LGBTQ community in a positive light when providing HIV and AIDS education in Arizona schools is being challenged in court.

One defendant in the case is Superintendent of Public Education Kathy Hoffman.

Speaking on PBS’s "Arizona Horizon," she said she’s all for challenging the law.

“I welcome this lawsuit because I think we need more visibility to this law," Hoffman said. "It’s been very disappointing to see that year after year this bill has been introduced in the legislature to repeal this law, and it hasn’t gone anywhere.”

Hoffman said she will not fight the lawsuit brought by LGBTQ groups, and that she believes that healthy relationships should be promoted within schools.
