The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has given the city of Goodyear approval to build the Sonoran Valley Parkway.

The two-lane, 15-mile road will eventually connect the city to State Route 238 and the community of Mobile. Most of the thoroughfare will be built on public land and will circumvent a number of historically-significant sites

The Bureau anticipates the two-lane parkway will improve emergency response times and economic opportunities in the country’s fastest growing county.

Goodyear originally pitched the project in 2008, and can now start finalizing construction plans. Once it breaks ground, the city estimates it will take about two and a half years to build.
