The Food and Drug Administration is shutting down a hidden database recently uncovered by Kaiser Health News.

The so-called "alternative summary reporting" program allowed some medical device makers to file reports of malfunctions and injuries that never appeared in the public database. Even doctors didn’t know about them.

The database contained 1.1 million records since 2016.

Christina Jewett is a senior correspondent with Kaiser Health News and she uncovered this database. She spoke to The Show about where this program came from.
