Arizona Rep. Martha McSally announced her involvement in a border security bill. This comes as the House has passed a bill that approves funding for the Department of Homeland Security.

McSally and some of her colleagues from The House Committee on Homeland Security have introduced the  “Secure Our Borders First Act” on Friday. In a press release she said the bill will first be considered by the committee before being going to the House floor.

Earlier this week, the House passed legislation to make sure our homeland security assets are funded and now, this bill takes the important step of addressing and improving our broken border strategy," McSally said.

The freshman congresswoman said while she supports the bill, she wants to address some concerns about how the bill will impact Southern Arizona.

The bill includes funding for the National Guard along the border and new infrastructure. It also defines metrics for measuring the effectiveness of border security.

Earlier this week McSally voted for a House spending bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security through September. That bill includes several amendments to President Barack Obama’s executive immigration action and is unlikely to pass in the Senate.
