According to data analysis from the Council of the Americas, only about 2.6% of the Mexican population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. And many experts consider that the slow progress of vaccinations in Mexico represent a failure of the government’s strategy to face the pandemic.

Mexico’s president publicly received a coronavirus vaccine Tuesday, in part to encourage other older Mexicans to get their shots. Mexico, like much of the world, is vaccinating its population much more slowly than the United States and other rich countries, which account for the vast majority of doses given so far.

The data would place Mexico as the country with the second-highest number of deaths after the U.S.

The U.S. government says the traffic of migrants coming from Central America toward the U.S.-Mexico border continues to intensify. And Mexico says it is strengthening its immigration operations across the country to confront the issue.
