A joint legislative committee held a hearing on Wednesday to investigate the licensing practices of the Arizona Medical Board. A state ombudsman’s report on the board found the board was not following state regulations for licensing physicians.

After the report was released, the Executive Director Lisa Wynn was fired. Arizona Medical Board Chairman Dr. Gordi Khara said the public is concerned.

“They started to ask me you know, 'What is going on with the board? Are you guys, how can I trust my doctor that I am seeing? Is he appropriately licensed? Is he not supposed to be licensed?' I mean these were like real world questions I had from my patients," Khara said.

Khara said he felt these problems started to call the integrity and trust of the board into question. Dr. Khara said the board takes the recommendations from the legislature and the ombudsman’s office very seriously and is in the process of reviewing the licenses issued during the time period in question.
