Tucson was one of the last places to get a college football bowl game before the start of three-year moratorium on adding new ones.

The second annual NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl is Friday in the Old Pueblo where Air Force is heavily favored to beat South Alabama.

But officials say the potentially one-sided matchup has not hurt ticket sales. They’re hoping for a crowd as large as 35,000, which would be a 40 percent increase in attendance from last year.

The Arizona Bowl has made big strides in its second year, said Mike Feder, executive director.

“Our game is the only one that’s going to be on world-wide on Facebook Live and Twitter live,” Feder said. “There’s not another bowl that can say that. That’s something that we take great pride in.”

Four-year agreements with the Mountain West and Sun Belt conferences are reasons why the Arizona Bowl is here to stay, Feder said.
