People living on opposite sides of the Valley have been dealing with the same problem - spiking water bills.

Phoenix-based Global Water Resources, Inc. serves the city of Maricopa. An offshoot of the company handles billing for part of Buckeye, where an uproar over increased water bills recently led to a push to recall the mayor.

Water bills have also soared for some Maricopa residents. They’ve launched a petition asking the city to hire an outside investigator to review Global Water’s business practices.

The Maricopa City Council will hold a special meeting to hear from residents, said Gregory Rose, city manager.

“We’re hopeful that it's a small number of people that are impacted and that Global Water will be able to work with those individuals and resolve the problems,” Rose said.

Global Water’s president recently told the council there’s no evidence bills were manipulated, and while billing errors sometimes occur, they’re usually in the customer’s favor.
