Why Are Hate Crimes In The U.S. On The Rise?

Last month, the Washington Post reported more hate crimes were carried out in the United States with an uptick in incidents against Muslims, the LGBTQ community and others.

The victims were targeted because of bias against the victim’s race or identity.

Some have blamed this recent increase in hate crimes on the Trump administration’s unwillingness to denounce white supremacist groups.

While hate crimes are on the rise, they often fall through the cracks in our justice system.

Rachel Glickhouse is the partner manager for the Documenting Hate Project at ProPublica, which has investigated hate crimes in America over the past year.
