Sen. Kyrsten Sinema ran as a Centrist, and the Arizona Democrat has largely stayed out of the partisan fray in Washington.

But she has been meeting quietly with non-profit organizations and immigration officers in Arizona as the number of migrants reaching our border reaches near-record numbers.

Nearly 145,000 migrants were apprehended at the Southern border in May, according to the latest numbers from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. That marks the highest those numbers have been in more than a decade.

Sinema says the Senate is ready to act on making necessary changes to our country’s immigration system.

Sinema’s Protecting Affordable Mortgages for Veterans Act was the first piece of legislation she has sponsored to pass the Republican-controlled Senate. It aims to protect veterans from predatory home loan practices that are allowed under current law.

The Show asked her why she pushed for this bill to go after so-called "loan-churning."
