Some Arizona Corporation Commission Members Want APS To Answer Questions On Disconnection Policies
While Arizona Corporation Commission documents show APS has settled out of court on two heat-related death cases, members of the regulatory commission want more answers into a third.
Commissioner Sandra Kennedy is the sole Democrat among the members, but she has the support of Republican Chairman Bob Burns.
Both want Don Brandt and other executives from APS and its corporate owner Pinnacle West to answer questions, under oath, about their policies, especially those related to disconnecting customer power.
However, Lea Marquez-Peterson, the newly appointed Republican commissioner, told Capitol Media Services she's not sure it's appropriate.
"Any of the commissioners can certainly subpoena Don Brandt if that's the case. I think the first step, though, is to have further investigation and understand the policies ACC has set in the past."
Kennedy and Burns believe Peterson is conflicted and protecting the utility company because APS and Pinnacle West contributed to her failed congressional race last year.
