Historic Phoenix Warehouse To Become Hotel Lobby
An Oklahoma -based company wants to turn a historic building in downtown Phoenix into a hotel lobby.
In 1929, the Fuller Paint Company Warehouse was built at First Street and Jackson Street. A July 3, 2019, City Council report said, “The building is significant as an important and increasingly rare example of a utilitarian brick warehouse in the industrial downtown hub adjacent to the railroad siding on Jackson Street.”
Last Wednesday, the City Council approved giving Anish Hotels Group up to $200,000 to help rehabilitate the red brick building. In July 2009, the warehouse was designated on the Phoenix Historic Property Register. It has raised parapet, steel trusses and a full basement.
According to the council report, Tulsa-based Anish Hotels Group plans to use the building as a lobby for a new limited service extended stay hotel. The hotel will include three adjacent parcels to the east. The company’s website says it focuses on premium brands from the Hilton and Marriott family of hotels in high-end suburban and urban markets.
In exchange for the city’s funding, the building must be preserved, insured and maintained for 30-years. The total rehab costs for the former warehouse is estimated between $1.17 million and $1.45 million.
