Arizona's Sluggish Port Reputation Hurting Cross-Border Trade

June 08, 2017

Arizona’s shipping ports of entry are facing growing competition from Texas and California for Mexico’s agricultural shipments.

"Right now our number one issue is perception," says Luis Ramirez, a cross border consultant who presented his findings to officials from Arizona’s border counties. "Once people get down to the border and see what we’re doing, how our ports of entry are operating. They’re sold that our ports and our border is second to none."

Staffing the ports continues being an issue but ports like San Luis near Yuma have seen companies return to using that port of entry after leaving for California’s ports but seeing improvements were made here.
