One man is dead and a second is under arrest after a rolling gunfight with Arizona state troopers and U.S. Border Patrol agents early Wednesday morning.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the incident started at about 1 a.m. east of Quartzsite when a state trooper tried to pull over a blue Ford Mustang with suspended plates.

Police say the passenger climbed out and fired a weapon at the trooper. The trooper returned fire and the car sped off on Interstate 10. Border Patrol agents chased the vehicle down, and the federal agents exchanged gunfire with the Mustang’s occupants.

Police say the driver forcefully stole a commercial truck, continued down I-10 and again exchanged gunfire with pursuing agents and police. In a third shootout, the driver was shot, and later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
