The chance for rain in the Valley has dwindled to less than 5% heading into the weekend.

However, visitors wanting to escape the heat before summer vacation ends can head north of the Mogollon Rim.

"We're going to be having temperatures near normal, into the low 80s, before any kind of thunderstorm activity begins across the high country," said meteorologist Nathan Lynum with the National Weather Service in Flagstaff.

He said that should last through the weekend but reminded people, "We do want to highlight that there are those chances of thunderstorms."

Because those thunderstorms can suddenly fill dry washes and create dangerous conditions, even miles away from the storms. Lynum said it's important to avoid driving or lingering near low-lying areas and river beds.
