After nearly 450 pets were adopted in two days during its Empty the Shelter adoption event, the Arizona Humane Society is closing its Sunnyslope campus through Wednesday because of electrical issues.

The closure will affect Sunnyslope cat and dog adoptions, a cat hospital and holding areas, as well as a maternity suite and a room for cats being treated for ringworm.

Arizona Humane Society spokesperson Bretta Nelson said any pets left over from the adoption event have been transported to other facilities in the Valley, but that the public’s help is still needed to find the pets a home.

“It's really been a game of Tetris, where you're really just trying to plug in animals in different areas,” Nelson said. “So it's been every department really working together to make this happen.”

Nelson said the repairs are primarily for an old electrical panel and will cost about $16,000.

“If people are not in the market to adopt a pet or potentially sign up to be a foster parent, monetary donations are certainly appreciated to help offset those costs,” Nelson said.
