A new study by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that, nationally, the number of people killed in red-light crashes is on the rise.

Per capita, Arizona had the highest rate of red-light-running fatalities, according to Aldo Vazquez, of AAA Arizona.

"Thirty-nine people were killed in 2017," said Vazquez. "And in a 10-year time frame, from 2008 to 2017, 352 people have lost their lives."

Vazquez said of those 352 people, 119 were the red-light-running driver, 49 were the passengers of the red-light-running driver and 22 were either pedestrians or cyclists.
