APS Current Tally From Delinquent Accounts: $22.1 Million
Arizona’s largest utility says it’s owed $22.1 million from 87,573 delinquent residential accounts as of Aug. 26. At this time last year, the company says it was owed about $8 million from delinquent customers.
Arizona Public Service filed the information with regulators on Friday. The company started tracking the number of delinquent accounts in mid-July and is regularly filing a tally with the Arizona Corporation Commission.
The commission placed a moratorium on power shut-offs earlier this year. That came after a woman died in her home. APS had shut off her power because she owed $51 on her electricity bill.
The moratorium on shut-offs expires in mid-October.
Salt River Project is not regulated by the commission and doesn’t have a moratorium on electricity shutoffs. But the company offers credit to people behind on their bills.
