Heavy Rains Slam Sonoran Beach Destinations
Sonoran beach towns popular with Arizona visitors were slammed by rain over the past couple days.
Bahia de Kino, an hour west of Hermosillo, received more than two-and-a-half inches of rain in recent days, bringing major flooding and forcing road closures.
“A temporary shelter for 48 people was established at the Fermin Trujillo High School,” said Santa Aguilar, Hermosillo’s Civil Protection coordinator.
But the road to Kino has now been reopened, and authorities are working to reestablish all services. Aguilar said any visitors with weekend beach plans in Kino would not be affected.
Rocky Point, another beach town heavily visited by Arizonans, got comparable rainfall in recent days, according to the National Water Commission. Media reports showed heavy flooding in the city.
