Attorney Allister Adel has been named the interim Maricopa County attorney by a unanimous vote of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. The county announced the appointment late Thursday morning.

Prior to the announcement, The Show spoke with committee member Rae Chornenky about the process of selecting a new county attorney and what the citizens committee was looking for in a candidate.

Former County Attorney Montgomery was appointed to the state Supreme Court, leaving his former post wide open, and there was no shortage of interested attorneys.

Eight people applied, including Chief Deputy Rachel Mitchell, who ran the office in Montgomery's absence, and five were recommended by a citizens’ committee. The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors interviewed each of those candidates again on Wednesday, but they did not reach a final decision until the following day.
