Opioid deaths draw significant nationwide attention by first responders, health officials and the media, but a new report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that in the West, more people die from methamphetamine overdoses.

So, why is meth a drug of choice in the West when heroin and fentanyl are the leading cause of drug overdoses in the East?

Michael Shafer, a professor in the Arizona State University School of Social Work, spoke to The Show about this distinction.
