A project to install hundreds of new signs along Phoenix-area freeways is almost complete. It's part of an ongoing effort to prevent wrong-way driving.

ADOT is replacing older signs with larger, lowered wrong-way or do not enter signs.

Lowering the signs to 3 feet above the ground, rather than 7 feet is supposed to put them closer to a wrong-way driver’s line of vision.

The latest upgrades include parts of all the major freeways including Interstate 10, Interstate 17 and U.S. 60. ADOT has also added more white pavement arrows pointing in the right direction of travel on freeway exit ramps.
