NTSB investigators in Tempe examine the self-driving Uber vehicle involved in a fatal accident.

A report by the National Safety Transportation Board found that a self-driving Uber SUV was not programmed to detect jaywalkers when it hit and killed a woman who was crossing Mill Avenue in Tempe three years ago.

Elain Herzberg, 49, was struck by an Uber SUV in March, 2016. Even though there was a driver behind the wheel, video shows she failed to react fast enough to avoid hitting Herzberg, who was walking her bike across a dark section of road.

To talk about the report’s findings, The Show spoke with Ryan Randazzo of the Arizona Republic.
