We’ve all heard of tiny houses, or at least seen them on HGTV. Well now, there’s an effort right here in the Phoenix metro area to build something a little different — micro estates. The idea here is more about community, not just about the size of the home.

It’s part of a broader movement toward what’s called small-scale development. ASU’s Stardust Center is hosting a forum on the topic on Thursday. The Show spoke with two of the guests.

Astrid Caldas is senior climate scientist with the Climate and Energy Program at the Union of Concerned Scientists and David Crummey is real estate development manager at Newtown CDC, which is working to build the Tempe Micro Estates.

EDITOR'S NOTE: This story has been modified to correct the spelling of Caldas' name.
