The University of Arizona has decided to no longer recognize one of its long-standing fraternities.

As of this week, both the university and Theta Chi fraternity’s national board of directors have revoked the Arizona chapter’s charter for multiple violations of the State Board of Regents Student Code of Conduct.

The decision came after a former member filed a lawsuit last month for alleged "relentless" physical and emotional abuse from his senior fraternity brothers.

The $1 million lawsuit seeks damages from UA for failing to supervise the fraternity.

It is one of a series of other recent hazing complaints against the local Theta Chi chapter.

Loss of recognition effectively closes off the fraternity from the university, its facilities and resources.
