Writing the great American Novel is a dream of people with English degrees everywhere around the globe, but we usually need inspiration or time or patience or the specific motivation that only a deadline can provide.

National Novel Write Month — or NaNoWriMo for short — is marked annually in November, as participants aim to write a 50,000 word manuscript in 30 days.

To learn more, The Show spoke with Maryvale High School creative writing teacher Carrie Deahl who has had their students take part in NaNoWriMo for four years.

Deahl began by sharing what their experience had been like trying to write 50,000 words of fiction.
