A bugle song, "First Call," is used at horse race tracks to let bettors know the next race is about 10 minutes away, but as tracks face more scrutiny over the deaths of horses, a sadder song may be more appropriate.

Arizona Republic reporter John D’Anna focused his latest article on what happens to horses injured during a race.

He profiled one particular race held on Oct. 28 at Turf Paradise in Phoenix. On that day, the horse Saltarin won the photo finish, but it turned out to be his last race.

John D'Anna joined The Show to talk about his piece.
