Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador met Thursday with survivors and the relatives of victims of a tragic daycare fire in the Sonoran capital Hermosillo.

AMLO, as he is widely known, spent several hours with those impacted by the 2009 fire that claimed the lives of 49 children and injured many more.

Julio Cesar Marquez, whose son of the same name was killed, described the meeting as positive but short on concrete steps.

“Yes, it’s important to recognize that there is a new attitude and greater will with the new government,” he said. He hopes that soon translates to action.

Among the things he’d like to see is a presidential decree that would firm up commitments to provide care to victims, something that he said may come by the next meeting planned for mid-March.
