An Arizona Rattlers player has been killed in a shooting in east Phoenix.

Twenty-five-year-old Lance McDowdell was shot to death in the driveway of an apartment complex in east Phoenix early Friday.

McDowdell, who played college football at Central Florida, joined the Rattlers as a defensive lineman in 2018.

This year, he had 32 tackles and 3 sacks, helping lead the team to a historic 15-0 start and the league’s championship game.

The Arizona Rattlers issued a statement, saying McDowdell represented their organization with pride and dedication.

Phoenix police haven’t identified a suspect and urge anyone with information to call silent witness.
