Gov. Brewer vetoes gun bill

April 17, 2012

Governor Jan Brewer has vetoed a bill that would have allowed people to carry guns into public buildings, unless they were secure facilities with storage lockers and signs. From Phoenix, KJZZ’s Mark Brodie reports.

MARK BRODIE: The governor vetoed a similar bill last year, and in Tuesday’s veto letter, she says it appears the majority of her concerns were not addressed in this year’s version. She also writes she’s concerned about the fiscal impact of the bill - several cities have said it amounts to an unfunded mandate - and that the measure could lead to extensive confusion regarding where guns are and are not allowed in public buildings. Supporters of the bill had argued that gun owners should be allowed to protect themselves in public buildings. But the governor writes there is still a tremendous amount of work to be done before this concept can become law.
