In September, the chancellor of the Maricopa County Community College District announced she would be stepping down. The district governing board has reached an agreement with Maria Harper-Marinick, allowing her to go on executive leave beginning Jan. 25.

The board held an executive session and special meeting on Tuesday. Board President Marie Sullivan says she’s not at liberty to discuss the executive session but says Harper-Marinick will stay on executive leave for the rest of her contract, which ends in May.

“She has earned a lot of time pursuant to all of the district’s policies for their executives, but she’s never taken advantage of those opportunities and now she wishes to pursue that and we’re in conversations to understand how that will happen exactly for her," Sullivan said.

Harper-Marinick has been with the district for nearly 30 years. Sullivan says a search committee has been established and they expect to have a new chancellor by July of this year.
