The Motel 6 at 4130 N. Black Canyon Highway in Phoenix was one of the locations where there were ICE arrests, according to the Phoenix New Times.

A Latino civil rights group and Motel 6 hope to get final approval Friday of a multimillion-dollar lawsuit settlement over sharing guest information with immigration authorities, but the Arizona Attorney General’s Office wants a federal judge to deny the request.

Phoenix New Times reported in 2017 that Motel 6 staff were sharing guest names with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The company was then sued by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund. And the sides agreed to a $10 million settlement.

Court documents say roughly 2,000 people have come forward to claim up to just more than half of the $10 million pot. And groups that help immigrants would get millions of what’s left over.

But the Arizona Attorney General’s Office writes that the extra money could instead go to people whose information was given to ICE, and it has asked the judge to not give the settlement final approval.
