Study: Scottsdale Airport And Airpark Have $688 Million Impact
An airport with a single runway is generating significant dollars, according to an Arizona State University study.
The city-owned airport near Scottsdale Road and Greenway Parkway offers no commercial airline service. It’s home to many corporate jets and caters to business and leisure travelers.
That model contributed to a total economic impact of $688 million in 2019, according to an analysis by Lee McPheters, research professor at Seidman Research Institute at the W.P. Cary School of Business. The amount is 20.7% higher than the last study conducted in 2015.
The $688 million includes direct benefits like employment and income from aviation-related activity, along with secondary benefits that include airport-related money that’s re-circulated through the regional economy. The analysis included economic activity at the Scottsdale Airpark, a major employment center. The study found aviation activity in the airport/airpark supported 3,979 total jobs in the region.
