Cyber Experts, Government Officials Warn Of Malware, Malicious Apps
As people search for health-related information online in response to the coronavirus pandemic, cybersecurity experts and government officials are warning of malware, malicious apps and false information.
Late Sunday night, the National Security Council tweeted that text message rumors of a national quarantine were “fake.”
This came after an earlier Bloomberg report of an attack on the cyberinfrastructure of the U.S. Health and Human Services Department.
David Ruiz with Malwarebytes, an online cyber watchdog publication, wrote “ ... researchers found a clever ploy to hide an information stealer behind a website that purported to show updated coronavirus cases on a global map.”
Another industry publication warned about ransomware from tracking apps that locks users out of their phones.
