Arizona Religious Services Responding To Coronavirus Recommendations
On Monday, the Trump administration issued a new recommendation in response to the coronavirus: Avoid crowds of 10 or more people.
Many religious services in Arizona are responding.
Leaders at Catholic Dioceses in Phoenix and Tucson have canceled public mass for at least the next three weeks.
Churches and chapels in Phoenix will remain open for private prayer, but other events, like weddings or funerals, should be limited to no more than 10 attendees.
The New Mexico based Diocese of Gallup, which administers parishes in northern Arizona, will keep mass open. But Bishop James Wall said Catholics aren’t obligated to attend.
The Church of Jesus Chris of Latter-day Saints temples in Arizona are either closed or operating on limited schedules to perform certain ceremonies, such as marriages, with limited crowds.
